Happy Halloween

We were too sick to go trick-or-treating or to hand out candy, but Jacob had fun wearing his costume and playing the part! SEE THE VIDEO HERE.

England in the Fall

We spent two weeks visiting family in the north of England in October. It was a beautiful time of the year to visit, as fall was in full swing and the leaves were turning and dropping. The weather was surprisingly mild and maybe even warmer than San Francisco, although we did endure days of rain at the second half of the trip.
We spent the majority of our trip with Tom’s brother Sam and his girlfriend Emily in Burley-in-Wharfedale. We were able to stay at a friends house nearby, which was great for Jacob (and for everyone else as Jacob wakes up early) and we also were able to borrow a car from a friend, which was very helpful. We did do a bit of traveling- mostly with Sam and Emily to stay at Tom’s mum’s house in Ripon, and Tom, Jacob and I spent a night at Tom’s dad’s in Barnsley.
We visited a sculpture park, Fountain’s Abbey (with loads of deer) and hiked along the moor. We also visited with our friend Vicky and her daughter Beatrix and with Josh, Kris and Caitlyn who drove up from London for a few days (they moved to England a few months ago from Marin).
Jacob has really connected with his family, especially Sam and Emily and Grandma! He loved playing drums with Sam and gave Emily big cuddles every time he saw her. When we were leaving he gave Grandma a big hug and kiss- all his idea. It was all very sweet. We miss our family so much and it is hard being so far away. Luckily, Sam, Emily and Tom’s mum are coming out for Christmas so we won’t be apart for too long. We are already getting the house ready for them!

Saturday Morning on the Beach

My loves. What can I say? I have a really great life and this video Tom made pretty much sums it up for me. (I’m having a hard time having this video work here, to see a link to it, click here).

Julie/Nick and James Visit

My sister Julie and her husband Nick came out to San Francisco for a week from Michigan. Their visit coincided with our friend James, who was visiting from Italy en route to LA. It was great for James to meet Jacob, and for Jacob to bond again with his aunt and uncle. It had been almost 6 months since he had seen Julie and Nick, but Jacob really took to them and he was happy to play ball and cars or go to the park with them. In the evenings, we took turns cooking amazing meals and sat around catching up or talking about family, life, and the funny things Jacob did during the day. The weather pretty much cooperated, which is always nice when people visit. It was sad to see everyone go- we went from having a very full house to just Jacob and I in one day (Tom had to travel and work late and didn’t see Jacob for a day or so). At night Jacob would look for his ‘night-night’ procession to give him cuddles and kisses and I had to explain it was just me and the dogs saying goodnight. The good thing is that we are off to England to visit more family in a few weeks. I can promise him that he will be able to fill up on his “night-night” hugs and kisses then!

Jacob is a “Little Fish”!

Jacob started a pre-preschool last week. The “Little Fish” program is the child program of the Slippery Fish co-op preschool, targeting kids aged 12 – 18 months.

There are 6 little fishes in his group, and 3 parents work each shift and trade of bringing snacks, setting up an activity and story time. The little fishes meet twice a week for two hours.

Each parent must also take a roll in the co-op and I am taking on the VP role of the Little Fishes. I am also a board member of the Slippery Fish group (of which Jacob will be joining in a few months).

Last week Jacob made his first masterpiece! He had a finger painting activity and saturated the paper so much it’s a lovely wrinkled mess!

We are looking forward to see where this journey takes us. Right now Jacob is doing really well. He is several months older than the other kids, so he is very confident. He has also been going to Recess (the space where class is held) for over 3 months now, so he is very familiar with his surroundings. Lately he has been a little needy with me and jealous when I am holding another child. I know it is a phase and he will be just fine…he is a brave little soul.
