Jacob started a pre-preschool last week. The “Little Fish” program is the child program of the Slippery Fish co-op preschool, targeting kids aged 12 – 18 months.
There are 6 little fishes in his group, and 3 parents work each shift and trade of bringing snacks, setting up an activity and story time. The little fishes meet twice a week for two hours.
Each parent must also take a roll in the co-op and I am taking on the VP role of the Little Fishes. I am also a board member of the Slippery Fish group (of which Jacob will be joining in a few months).
Last week Jacob made his first masterpiece! He had a finger painting activity and saturated the paper so much it’s a lovely wrinkled mess!
We are looking forward to see where this journey takes us. Right now Jacob is doing really well. He is several months older than the other kids, so he is very confident. He has also been going to Recess (the space where class is held) for over 3 months now, so he is very familiar with his surroundings. Lately he has been a little needy with me and jealous when I am holding another child. I know it is a phase and he will be just fine…he is a brave little soul.
I am teaching a 30 Minute Core Class at Recess Urban Recreation in Potrero. To start out we are offering it once a week, but if enough people sign up we will add more classes.
Class meets Thursdays at 10am and costs $9 for members / $10 for non-members. Pretty sure you can get a cheaper rate by purchasing a class card. Childcare is available for $6/hr for members. Anyone is welcome (you don’t have to have a kid or a membership).
Here is a description of the class:
Build core body stability and strength while enhancing flexibility, endurance and balance with our 30 Minute Core Class. By working the combination of abdominal, oblique, upper/lower back, hips, gluteus and thigh areas, this intensive workout will enhance your training program so you can do whatever it is you do BETTER. All levels welcome- be ready to train hard!
Tom’s dad Andrew came for a two week visit, which also coincided with Labor Day weekend. He spent a lot of time with Jacob, who was really taken with his “dad-daddy”, as he called him.
We have been watching Josh and Kris’ dog Marcus since they have moved to England, so Jacob and Andrew enjoyed a lot of dog walking on the beach. The weather proved fantastic, so we were able to do a lot of things outdoors.
Jacob loved The California Academy of Sciences. Last time we went he couldn’t walk yet so he spent the entire time in the stroller. This time, when he went with grandad, the museum was quiet and they were able to walk around freely. Jacob was amazed by the massive aquarium. We also had a nice visit to the zoo, especially the petting zoo portion.
For Labor Day weekend we went up to Point Arena and stayed 4 nights at the Point Arena Lighthouse keeper’s house. It was great- lots of harbor seals, gophers, deer, and all kinds of birds. The view from the lighthouse was incredible and the seaside cliffs provided a viewing place for the harbor seals. We visited half a dozen little beaches and watched the horizon change based on the drift of the fog. The ride home was calm and traffic (and puke) free (both Jacob and the dog barfed in the car on the way up).
Jacob was sad to see his grandad go, and he misses him very much! Good thing we are going to England in a month!
